After a clean sweep at the awards in Calgary at the World of Wheels by the white 1970 Superbee belonging to Josh Levair of Granum, it was off to Winnipeg. We left Granum on the Tuesday before the show and stopped for the night just east of Regina. It hand been raining all day in Manitoba and overnight it had frozen to the roads so the further east we went the more treacherous the roads got. With a 70 km cross wind out of the north and heavy snow falling as well as blowing snow, visibility was reduced to less than solid ice. It took six hours to get from Brandon to Winnipeg and the city itself had 14 inches of new snow in the previous 24 hours, which we had to drive through to get to the convention centre in rush hour traffic. Lots of fun! At the show, however, Josh’s Superbee received rave reviews. Investment Vehicle Restorations was well represented with three vehicles. John Holmes of Stavely, AB brought his 1969 Brand X Pick Up Truck and won his class as well as the Classic Truck award. The 1971 Duster belonging to Tony Williams of Delta, BC finished second in Altered Restored and Outstanding Paint and Outstanding Display. Josh’s Superbee was again the star of the show taking his Class – Altered Restored, Exhibiters Choice, Outstanding Display and Best Restored. The Bee had one more stop on its indoor show tour for the season and that was Powerama in Edmonton, AB. Another car show, another winter storm. Snow and freezing rain on Wednesday night meant that on Thursday we left Granum in a whiteout at 4 am and arrived just north of Calgary at 8:30 am. From there the roads were clear right through to Edmonton. Investment Vehicle Restorations brought up six vehicles for this show. John Holmes with his GMC Truck and Jamie Phillips 1966 Mustang Convertible took class awards. Todd Hurtaks 1959 Chrysler and Harlan Martins 1969 Charger also won class awards, and the Charger just missed the top ten by ¾ of a point. Tony Williams 1971 Duster won the Factory Small Block Class as well as a Top Ten Award. The big winner once again was Josh Levair’s 1970 Superbee winning its Class, as well as Best Display, Best High Performance Big Block and Best Restored plus finishing second for best overall at the show, congratulations Josh! |
